BreathScan®
is a disposable single use breath alcohol detector
that provides accurate and reliable measurement
of breath alcohol contents. Its low cost and ease
of use make the BreathScan® testers ideal screening
tools which qualifies an individual for submission
to a forensic-quality evidential testing.
BreathScan® comes in five models to cover a full
range of testing requirements. The .02% tester can
detect the smallest trace of alcohol and is useful
for ensuring that operators of heavy machinery and
other low-tolerance situations are not under any
influence. The .04%, .05%, .08% and .10% testers
detect alcohol levels over the legal limits prescribed
by different state or countries DUI legislation.

Easy to Use
Using BreathScan® is as easy as 1-2-3. Wait 15 minutes
after your drink. Open the package and remove the
BreathScan® tube. Squeeze the middle of the outer
plastic tube between your thumb and forefinger to
break the inner glass ampoule containing the yellow
crystals. Take a deep breath and blow, in one continuous
breath. Wait for two (2) minutes. Observe the color
change of the crystals.
How to Read Color Changes
The crystals in the .02% tester will become an aqua(bluish
green/greenish blue) color at an alcohol level of
.02% or greater. The .02% tester is designed to
report the lowest level of alcohol, and therefore
does not report intermediate levels.
The crystals in testers measuring .04% or higher
will turn a greenish hue at an intermediate level
of alcohol. In other words, a greenish cast indicates
the presence of alcohol, but not in excess of the
degree for which the tester is designed to detect.
An aqua cast (bluish green/greenish blue) indicates
levels at or above that designated value for the
tester. Remember, the .02% tester indicates the
presence of any alcohol with aqua-colored crystals.
Idependent Testing
Numerous independent laboratory tests have established
the reliability of the BreathScan® alcohol indicator.
Without exception, they have found the BreathScan®
indicator to have a high degree of accuracy and
reliability. Examples of those who conducted tests
on BreathScan® include:
The U.S. Department of Transportation(DOT)
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
The Colorado Department of Health
The Denver Police Department
W.R. Grace & Company
The Pennsylvania Department of Health
The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes
How it Works
Here is the principle upon which the BreathScan®
tester works: the ethyl alcohol in the blood escapes
through the lung tissue into the exhaled breath.
The presence of ethyl alcohol in the breath is detectable
by a color change of very sensitive chemically coated
crystals contained in the BreathScan® tester. The
BreathScan® alcohol tester keeps the chemically
coated crystals fresh in a hermetically sealed ampoule
until the test is to be administered. Immediately
prior to use, the ampoule is ruptured by slight
finger pressure on the outer flexible clear tube
to release crystals within the confines of the tube.
When the subject exhales into the tube, the fresh
crystals interact with breath vapor and change color
from yellow to blue, if alcohol is present. If all
the crystals change color completely, this indicates
that the subject's blood alcohol level is at or
over the level being tested for. The accuracy of
this chemical reaction has been scientifically documented,
and is the type of reaction which is utilized in
legally substantiated test devices used by law enforcement
agencies.
The BreathScan® alcohol tester detects the presence
of alcohol as low as .02%, and distinguishes low
levels of alcohol from levels in excess of .10%
(legal intoxication in many states). The crystals
in the BreathScan® alcohol tester are unaffected
by heat and cold and the shelf life is unlimited.
